Radical Writers: 100 Years of John Berger, with guest speaker Lisa Appignanesi

  • Abney Park Chapel Stoke Newington High Street London, England, N16 0LH United Kingdom (map)

John Berger, art critic, novelist, painter and poet

The writer John Berger was born 100 years ago this year at 1 Filey Avenue, Stoke Newington – just a stone’s throw from Abney Park. The author of more than forty books, a Booker Prize-winner, filmmaker and artist, he went on to become one of Europe’s most formidable post-war intellectuals.

On this special evening, his lifetime friend and collaborator, Lisa Appignanesi – writer, former Chair of The Royal Society of Literature and the 2018 Man Booker International Prize – will be in conversation with writer and social historian Ken Worpole. They will reflect on Berger’s life and work which, rather than lose urgency over time, seem more radical than ever.
